farm life.
where am i? why i'm in red hook, new york!

so far this break has been one of my best, minus to waking up at 8am every morning to a home restoration guy banging on my window (mind you i'm on the third floor and when you are on a third floor its especially strange to wake up to someone at the window). but i suppose i'm one of them now anyways. i'm almost on a real person sleeping schedule which would be go to bed at midnight and be up at 8 (though i've probably more than likely been getting out of bed at 9, but i COULD have been up at 8!)

pretty much hugh's dad's house rules, i've been working pretty much all day when we're not playing baseball or basketball. landscaping, chainsawing, and my favorite, taking all the ceilings out of one of the three cabins on the property to make a loft and studio space for hugh and willy. this includes taking a hammer to the ceiling and then duck and covering while literally dozens of wasp and bee nests fall out of the attic. luckilly they're all dead or sleeping somewhere else right now cause i'd be incredibly dead by now if they were still hanging out. i've also found out that lady bugs hangout in secret mounds by the hundreds behind boards and in ceilings. CRAZY!
thus far we also went to the whitney biennial which i'd like to say to the whitney "better luck next year." it was pretty weak sauced. to the point that i don't really remember much of what i saw there. but nyc was pretty sick, me, hugh, willy and caitlin hungout for a couple nights at benny's and i stayed up for 48hours straight and then painted the american apparel's red with my five fingers. very sucessful, lots of good people.

besides that i've just been enjoying the life of a laborer, its incredible, i mean i used to do this type of shit when i was growing up all summer, but i was always pissed that my dad was making me do it. now i'm just kinda doing it cause i want to and its narly, taking breaks when i want, drinking beer and singing neil young, its great. also alot of the time i'll be working outside and look up and see giant narly birds circling me. i've seen a couple of smaller hawks but most of the time they're huge turkey vultures looking for some dead shit. obviously i've been doing alot of browsing of field guides: a2zbirds, enature
i don't want to go home.

railbiking to the future.

well some time has passed i suppose since our last stint but i have good excuses, i've been in vermo, namely white river jct the past two weekends skiing and sorting through the hundreds of baseball cards in my basement. i figured i deserved a little time off, my girlfriend broke up with me and i needed a little time to fade out in the wilderness. this weekend was actually extra narly cause it was my pop's 50th bday and all of my family was there, being my mothers 9 brothers and sisters with their 4 element families. ridic.

i made this poster for the party, the photoshop cut and pasting got hella sloppy towards the end (deadlines make me work, just not well) but i finally got it finished at 8 en la noche on thursday so i had to take the midnight bus to vermo to get there on time. well while in south station i sat for an hour and then got on the bus and an hour into the ride realized that i left the poster at south station. after much arguing via telephones with south station the poster was lost and on friday i drove all the way back to boston to make another...i don't mind driving though, i'm most comfortable riding the highways at night, most of the time its what i do in vermont anyways. example: when i was sharing a hotel room with my sis' boyfriend, my solution to boredom was to make the 2 hour drive to ny state and back so i could look across lake champlain, why not?!
moving on. bikes. rail bikes and ice bikes, ridiculous:

why not i guess. (read more @ boingboing.net)
i have pretty much been living off of youtube in vermont, primarily such incredible hit british comedies like the mighty boosh and the IT crowd. i don't know if it makes me an incredible nerd to take this liking to british comedies, it certainly meant that in high school, but this shit is really good! my personal favorite character from the mighty boosh, the moon:

obviously full episodes and clips are on youtube, also season 5 of curb your enthusiasm is all up there now. geniussss.
in my driving odyssey's i could not stop listening to the new sword album, incredible, give it a listen, other mp3zzzz too(don't tell the riaa):
the sword - age of winters (track: 07 lament for aurochs)
phantom buffalo - killing's not ok (track: 03 through the grass and pines)
nathan fake - dying in a sea of love prom (track: 05 superpositions)
the flaming lips - at war with the mystics (track: 06 the wizard turns me on...)
